To be a pre-successful/pre-published writer is to go through this phase of life as a glow-in-the-dark toy dinosaur… charging in an electrically-lit room during the day.**
Hey, what were you expecting for a metaphor? I do write Middle Grade. It sucks to have to spend time and efforts where we don’t shine, but sometimes it’s necessary.
What’s important is to remember how amazing you are, even if you can’t shine your super-cool neon glow every second of every day.
Personally, with my husband furloughed and my migration project ended, I need to go find a brightly-lit room of the corporate variety to sit in for a bit, and remember that even regular Perler beads, plastic dinosaurs, etc are cool in their own right (It’s just that, you know, they’re REALLY cool if you know they glow in the dark).
I’m still in the season where I have to gather electricity and glow on my own time. For now.
There, I think I convinced myself. Happy Monday everyone!
*Trust me on all things glow-in-the-dark; I have a seven-year-old son.
** How does this work, anyway?
